El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, is taking another bold step in promoting the use of the cryptocurrency among its citizens. The Central American nation has launched Node Nation SV, a pilot project that aims to teach students how to operate and manage Lightning nodes, the technology that enables fast and cheap transactions on the Bitcoin network.

What is Node Nation SV?

Node Nation SV is an educational program that was initiated by the National Bitcoin Office, a governmental entity that oversees the implementation of the Bitcoin Law in El Salvador. The program is supported by the Ministry of Education and the nonprofit organization My First Bitcoin, which has been providing Bitcoin education to thousands of Salvadorans since 2021.

The program consists of training 150 public school teachers on the basics of coding, configuring, operating and managing the liquidity of a Lightning node. These teachers will then integrate Bitcoin knowledge into their respective curriculum and classrooms, reaching thousands of students across the country.

The program will start with a pilot phase in 10 schools, and will gradually expand to other schools over the next 12 months. The goal is to equip the young generation with the technical skills and the financial literacy needed to participate in the global digital economy.
