Cryptocurrency ATMs are on the rise, signaling a rebound from the previous year’s decline. As of 2024, the number of installed crypto ATMs has increased by 17.8%, reaching 38,279 machines globally. This surge brings us closer to the all-time high of 39,541 ATMs set in December 2022.

Reversing the Decline

Between July 2023 and May 2024, the total number of crypto ATMs increased consistently each month. Although there was a slight dip of 115 installations from May to June, June experienced a significant rebound, resulting in a net increase of 377 machines.

The top three cryptocurrency ATM operators are:

  1. Bitcoin Depot: Leading the pack with 7,543 machines.
  2. Coinflip: Following closely with 5,057 ATMs.
  3. Athena Bitcoin: Contributing to the growth with 2,756 machines.

Global Distribution and Dominance

U.S. Dominance and Australia’s Surge

The United States remains the dominant player, hosting over 82% of the world’s crypto ATMs. Canada ranks second with 7.7%. Notably, Australia has seen a significant increase, nearly 17-fold, in the past two years, reaching 1,107 devices. Australia is poised to surpass Europe’s 1,584 ATMs at the current installation rate.

Other Countries with Substantial Installations

Several other countries have substantial crypto ATM installations:

  • Spain: 313 ATMs
  • Poland: 279 ATMs
  • El Salvador: 215 ATMs
  • Germany: 177 ATMs
  • Hong Kong: 169 ATMs

Additionally, 72 out of the 193 countries recognized by the United Nations now have cryptocurrency ATMs.

The surge in crypto ATM installations reflects growing interest and adoption worldwide. As the industry continues to evolve, these machines play a crucial role in providing convenient access to digital assets for users across the globe.
